“Your boy been focused since I said ‘HI’ to tre-O/and I ain’t talking bout my age though, my payroll” – S. Carter

I remember when Jay-Z first dropped that line and even though he was probably talking about 30 million I just adapted it to my life and decided to focus with the little $30K salary I started to earn back in 05. I was young then so of course I messed my money up. That’s what most young men who promote really good parties do, we earn money fast and mess it up even faster. Now that I’m actually approaching tre-0 I’d never do that. In fact, one of those things I said I never do back then I’m doing now and that’s giving myself a birthday party.

In my 7 years as a promoter, many people have asked me to give, coordinate, or “throw” them a birthday party. I always suggest they just spend that money on a section in someone’s club if they want to party. It’s much easier, less hassle and for the most part the people who matter the most will be there. So what made me decide to give myself a party? Well I’ve been having this burning desire to have a certain type of party. Within the last 2 years, traveling to different cities and talking to folks here at home I see that I’m not the only person who wants that type of party. The easiest way to describe that “certain type of party” would simply be fancy AND fun. Here in Baltimore if you do too much out of the ordinary you’re already too fancy for most because that’s just not their preference. Despite the majority’s preference, there seems to be a demand amongst young, progressive adults to go to real parties, not just a club, dress really nice and have lots of fun. People complain that things are too “hood” or boring or repetitive. There’s no spice in Baltimore nightlife. Not enough variety. There are options, Federal Hill, Mount Vernon, Canton, Fells Point, Downtown. There are definitely nice places to go but no options that are satisfying people who’ve done what I’ve done since 2005 and that’s grow up. I still want to have fun and wear trendy fly clothes and all but even I need a different outlet. You’d be surprised how many men and women tell me “this city aint really ready for that type of thing” or “that party ain’t worth that outfit”. Mind you they’re talking to a guy who blogs and rants about style and fashion so they could be trying to impress but either way I see it as an opportunity and I share some of the same sentiments.

Its an opportunity to show that there’s a select group of folks on the same wave length when it comes to having a really fly, enjoyable party experience. You know like in the music videos. More like John Legend’s ‘Green Light’ and less like anything on World Star Hip Hop. We’ll skip over the women who think they need to wear really short or revealing clothes to get attention. We’ll skip the lames who try to buy their way into cool by ordering a bunch of bottles, without a table, and telling girls what kind of car they have outside. (You wouldn’t believe all the things I’ve seen) Instead of joining in on the complaining I just decided to use the resources that I’ve gained over the years and decided you use my birthday as a bit of a platform to share with people the experience they really want. That experience is #EXHIBIT30

#EXHIBIT30 is open to everyone but everyone isn’t welcome. Its open to everyone who shares the same taste of the maturing versatile party-goers but only the people who aren’t scared to show up and show out are the welcome. Thus the reason for personal invites for 2 months to spread the word versus the all out “EPIC CRAZY BOTTLE POPPING BDAY BASHNESS” that’s become so typical of the newest nobody on the scene.  #EXHIBIT30 takes place next Saturday October 22nd. Its from 9-12am, so be fashionable but don’t be fashionably late. The event is catered and open bar. The location, which has been a secret for 2 months, is a contemporary art gallery. The Maryland Art Place (M.A.P) located at 8 Market Place inside Power Plant Live, next to Ram’s Head. Admission price for the event is $50. $50 secures your entry wristband which is the ONLY way into the party. There is no guest list and guests may not pay at the door. There are 3 parking lots within 1 block of the art gallery (Gay Street, Water Street, and inside of the Power Plant by Port Discovery). A lot of hard work went into this event and in to the art in the gallery so please be respectful. Again, the event is a bit shorter than what most are used to so don’t come late. You can get all the details and purchase passes at www.exhibit30.eventbrite.com

I worked with my brothers in night, better known as SchoolYardEntertainment and the good folks of www.youknowear.com/ to coordinate this event and as they would say “if you’re going to go somewhere dress nice. If you’re going to dress nice go somewhere.” We have the perfect place for you, hope you can make it.
