Today’s look is based on the people’s response to a tweet of mine last week. Last week Gilt, an online flash-sale site, hosted Walkover shoes as one of its products for a few days. Walkover is a fairly new brand but despite its novelty the quality of its shoes are very good. That’s what excited me because their quality shoes were about half price. (Too bad I wasn’t able to cop any) Anyway I tweeted pics of 3 of my favorite pairs that were on Gilt and I received a lot of unexpected positive responses about the shoes. So I figured I do a look featuring a pair of the shoes I tweeted from Walkover. Take a look.
The shoe I selected was the tan nubuck longwing. I’m a big fan of wingtips but I’ve never had a pair of longwings. The nubuck looks rich and the brick red rubber soles are a good break from all the hardbottom leather soled shoes I wear. I’d match these up with a pair of the darkest, unbroken pair of raw denim jeans I could find, in this case the dry flat selvage denim from Nudie. My first choice was a pair of jeans from Uniqlo because of the lower price, around $89 verses $275 but I’ve tried these Nudies on and I like the cut with casual shoes. Another plus with this pair of Nudies is that the pocket logo is tonal so it won’t seem like your trying to show off your trendy expensive denim. I know Scotch & Soda more for their shirts but this coarse wool speckled hoodie is great for the winter and the cream looks good against the dark jeans. Now so that won’t look too matchy-matchy with the tan shoes and cream hoodie I had to throw in a pop item which is the knitted puffer vest from Rugby. I don’t recall ever seeing a knit puffer vest but I like it. Feels like sweater, wears like a vest. The fair-isle detailing is classic and on point and the red compliments each if the other piece. I had to throw in some extra warm comfortable socks because everyone deserves to feel like they’re walking on clouds. The colors in this pair of socks kind follow suit with the rest of the outfit nothing too special going on besides them being hand finished in Wales. Check out the full story behind them on J. Crew’s site. So there you have a simple casual “about town” look featuring Walkover shoes. Don’t forget to cuff those selvage denim jeans and shoe some sock.
