Mrs. Shafer worked at Head Start for years before gaining her Masters in school counseling from Marshall University. She worked as a school counselor at Lincoln County High School before coming to Huntington East Middle School. It was a full circle moment coming back to Huntington East because it is where she interned while in school. She has two boys who keep her hopping and wouldn’t have it any other way.  

Roles and Responsibilities  

• Student support for students A-K 
• Academic planning and advisement
• Orientation, coordination, and academic counseling for new students 
• Provides short-term individual and small group counseling  
• Present school counseling curriculum lessons to students 
• Student advocate 
• Help with student social and emotional issues 
• Consult with parents about student academic and personal needs 
• Make referrals to outside services
